Its name comes from the myth of Ariadne, who, after fleeing with Theseus, found herself alone and abandoned on the island of Naxos. Here she was noticed and saved by Dionysus, god of happiness, who fell madly in love with her. He married her and led her to Olympus, where he gave her, as a wedding gift, a crown embellished with stones and gems. After the death of his beloved Ariadne, Dionysus transferred the crown to the sky, giving rise to the constellation Corona Borealis.
